Joys of Being a Missionary... in Hawaii :)

Hello all!

To start off, one of the highlights from P-Day was the hike that we went on in the morning. It was called friendship gardens. It was hard to find and it was interesting because it was just in the back of a neighborhood and there was like nowhere to park so we parked right in front of the sign. The hike was great. Sister Tailleur and I felt a little like we were back at home hiking in the forest. We got to what we thought was the top but it was just a lookout. It was really pretty and looked over the city and ocean. Then we decided to see if there was more to hike and yes there was. Holy Cow, it was completely uphill and super steep from there. I was trying not to think about having to come back down the steep hill. We also walked through some California Grass which was weird...I kind of felt like I was on a Safari or something. We made it to the top of that and were able to lookout all over. We realized that the hike just kept going, we went on for a little more but decided to head back...we didn't know how long it was going to take us to get back down! That wasn't very fun going back down especially where some parts were gravely. But luckily it was sunny and not raining because that would have been way worse! There were some rocky parts too and Sister Tailleur fell down and sat on a rock...I felt so bad. And that was after we had gone down most of the way. The rest of the hike was easy going down because it wasn't as steep. I saw some huge leaves that I had to take a picture with.

A lowlight I guess you could say of the week was that I had my first investigator break-up! It was so sad but he just wasn't feeling and felt like God wasn't answering/speaking to him. I didn't want to give up but I later realized that I can't force him to do anything and it's just not his time.

Another highlight was that we were able to finally talk to someone we found in the parking lot of an apartment complex. She told us about her son that loves Jesus and we were able to meet him and ohmygoodness he is the sweetest ever! He had the picture of Jesus that we gave to his mom for him and he was just staring at it. His favorite person is Jesus. He also had a Jesus doll once that he begged his mom to get for him (actually Noah but close enough) and he gave it to a relative that was sick! He's just the sweetest and he is only 5 years old!

Another highlight was that we got to go to Pearl Harbor to do service. It was fun to go there because I have never been. We helped sweep and mop the inside of the ship and we were able to go in some restricted areas so that was fun. It was fun to be with the zone as well and have lunch with a few people we don't usually see.

We also went to the Visitor's center with a family and it was the best thing ever. The spirit is so strong there! And we were able to watch some amazing videos about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. It was wonderful and strengthened my testimony!

I also had my first exchange which was actually really fun. My companion was Sister Ogawa from Japan and she has been out a year. We were able to teach a family that is investigating with members that attended and it was good. She was able to help me see things I should be doing. She is also the happiest and most kind person you will ever meet! We also got to stop by the Ahuna's home and see my grandma's cousins. I love them so much! They are so fun and happy. I was able to see Janice and Jo. We also went to a graduation luau for dinner and it was great. There was live music and I tried some food I've never tried like Squid Luau which actually wasn't that bad, I just didn't like the Tea Leaf that much.

We also had Stake Conference this weekend and it was really great. We have a wonderful Stake President and Elder Acosta came. One of the things I liked that was shared was D&C 100:4, "I, the Lord have suffered you to come to this place" We are all in the places we are for a reason and there are people being prepared to hear the gospel, we just need to share it! We also learned about the effect we can have if we talk to one person, it affects their entire posterity! I know that people are being prepared to hear the gospel and we need to share it! Elder Acosta also challenged everyone to have one gospel conversation with someone every week.

This gospel is true!

Love,
Sister Heath
